Who can access:
All Licensed Lawyers, Judges, Assistant and Crown Attorneys and Justice of the Peace. 

Circulation Policy:
Members may sign out material for up to seven days. Pocket cards are located inside the front cover of books. Please sign and file alphabetically by surname in the outgoing file index. Law reports are signed out using the notebook located beside the file index for a period of up to seven days.  Loose-leaf titles remain in the library.

Collection:
E-LiRN suite of resources including QL, LN Practical Guidance, WL Criminal Source, WL Estates & Trusts Source, WL Family Source, vlex including Irwin Law’s Essentials in Canadian Law titles and Vincent AI – a reputable source of AI for lawyers. As well as a variety of print material. HeinOnline (Full text articles from English language legal periodicals, dictionaries, and legislative material).

History:
Formerly the Municipal Building, it was renovated inside to accommodate the new Chatham courthouse in 2003. The library is located on the 4th floor.

Facility:
The library has seating capacity for 12 and includes three work tables. Robing rooms with lockers for men and women and a small lawyers lounge are available. An IPAD with an electronic standing/sitting work table is located in the reading area. The library and courthouse have wireless internet. Please see the Library Manager for the library password and the courthouse password is posted throughout the building as well as the library.  There are two printers for lawyers to use. The photocopier may also be used as a printer/photocopier/scanner.  When prompted for a password,  members should enter their photocopier PIN number.  Members are charge by the total recorded on their PIN numbers at a cost of 30 cents per page.  Faxing and Scanning using the photocopier is free.  The library also has a standalone scanner.  The computer by the scanner has a desktop icon available for members to use for accessing this scanner.  The cost for printing in the library is 25 cents per copy. Please record the number of copies on the sign-up sheet beside the lawyers’ printers. Lawyers without an Access Card will need to enter the courthouse  through the front entrance and be processed via security.  Members of The Kent Law Association use the staff entrance.  An Access Card swipe plate is located beside the door.  The Kent Law Association is located on the 4th floor, you will need to swipe your card across the security plate in the elevator and press the 4th floor button. Out-of-town non-member lawyers can obtain an Access Card from Court Services located on the first floor. You will be required to leave a $25.00 cash deposit or your driver’s licence which will be refunded when the access card is returned.  All lawyers are welcome to use our collection.  However, only members are allowed to remove books from the library.  Loose-leaf titles remain in the library and are not signed out.
