The historic Elgin County Courthouse in St. Thomas, Ontario, was successfully saved through a $249-million redevelopment project completed in March 2014, which blended the 1850s heritage building with modern, sustainable infrastructure that accommodates people with disabilities making it easier to navigate. The project involved extensive rehabilitation of the 1854 Palladian-style courthouse and the 1874 Land Registry Office, preserving their exterior facades and key interior features while creating a new, consolidated, LEED Gold-certified facility.
