All Licensed Lawyers, Judges, Justice of the Peace, Board, Commission or Tribunal Members, Articling Students, and Licensed Paralegals

Circulation Policy:
Not open to the public. Members may sign out materials three weeks at a time. Overdue books will be subject to fines and/or reduced Library and NCLA Member privileges. Items marked with a “Library Use Only” sticker are non-circulating and cannot be removed from the library.

History:
The Law Association of the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham was first incorporated in 1924. Its purpose was to provide and maintain a county law library, and to promote the general welfare and interest of the legal profession across the counties it served. In 1976 the association’s name was changed to the Northumberland County Law Association.

Unique Collections:
The NCLA possesses a handful of judges’ personal bench note books that are displayed in the lounge; there is also a bust and collection of Andrew Lawson’s documents and an oral history of his time in Cobourg as he was a prominent member of the association and also the founder of legal aid Ontario.
